How do you rate your baking performance?
Give your pie a name based on the ingredients and decoration.
"Star of India" Veggie Pie - Because my vegetarian gourmand daughter loves Indian cuisine, I opted to make a hand-raised pie using shortening instead of lard and layering with potatoes, curly kale, rutabaga, mushrooms and caramelized onions, all seasoned with Indian spices: curry and Garam masala.
Tell us about your proudest moment — or humble failure — in this week’s baking challenge.
Surprise: I was worried that the bottom would be soggy (from the kale) but the whole crust was perfect! I think my “Star of India” rivaled the gem it is named for.
Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.
I used vegetables from local farmers market, Wisconsin Organic butter in crust and egg wash from farm eggs.
