How do you rate your baking performance?
Give your pie a name based on the ingredients and decoration.
Ultimate Wisconsin Cherry Pie. It features a medium-flake pie crust with a cheesecake base, tart cherry filling and almond crunch topping.
Tell us about your proudest moment — or humble failure — in this week’s baking challenge.
My hubby and I really brainstormed on this one so I was super excited we came up with this original creation. My humble failure is the pie crust decoration. I really wanted something with a wow factor but I couldn’t find anything in my baking tool collection to make that happen.
Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.
The medium-flake pie crust features Lonesome Stone Milling Organic Sifted Pastry Flour (a company in Lone Rock, WI with wheat grown from Dave Dolan in Dodgeville, WI) and two sticks of butter. The base is a delightful cheesecake made with cream cheese and an egg from my chickens. The tart cherry pie filling is an ode to Door County. And the almond crunch topping is made with Wisconsin honey. We’ve got it all here in Wisconsin — fruit, honey, dairy, flour, eggs — so making a pie is the perfect way to showcase our bounty!
