Jill from Hollandale, WI

Jill participated in Week 7: Desserts, and attempted the Mini Mousse Cakes Challenge. Let's see how they did!

How do you rate your baking performance?

It's not pretty, but it’s edible.

Give your dessert a clever name — and tell us about your recipe.

Banana Creme Mousse Cakes & Patriotic White Chocolate Mousse Cakes.

What was the biggest surprise during your baking journey? Did you use any unconventional approaches? What did you learn along the way? Tell us about it!

I completely freestyled this one. I just drew a picture of what I wanted and then made the layers separately. I didn't have any clear dishes to set it in so I made them on a bar pan. I made white chocolate mousse and a layer of cheesecake on top of the sponge. I learned that using a form or parchment collar is necessary for presentation. I also learned I can make up my own recipes and they will taste just great!

How did you add a Wisconsin twist to your flavors or decoration?

I used in season fruits and eggs from my chickens but I struggled otherwise because I was so consumed on making it work. Next time I'll try something like s'mores, which are perfect in mini form.
