Week 2: Cookies

Last week’s challenge was a piece of cake! So, Mary and Paul have stepped things up this week with three biscuit challenges. Here in Wisconsin, saying the word “biscuit” reminds us of chicken, glazed-ham, gravy and doggie treats.

So, we’re calling this week’s challenge what it really is: Cookies.

 

Week 2: Cookies Challenges

You only need to select one to participate.

Signature Challenge — Iced Cookies
Make 24 identical cookies that are perfectly crisp and have a delicate icing. The cookie should make a nice sound when it hits the plate.

Technical Challenge — Viennese Whirls
Bake 12 identical whirls filled with buttercream and jam of your choice (maybe Wisconsin cherry or apple?). Think of this as a British Oreo. Cookies should be baked in a beautiful swirl. Buttery, crumbly — almost dissolves in the mouth.
 
Showstopper Challenge — 3-D Gingerbread Story
Your creation must describe something about your Wisconsin life, be at least 12 inches high and involve at least 8 characters or objects. We can’t wait to see your results.

How to participate in The Great Wisconsin Baking Challenge: 

Each week, we’ll issue three baking challenges based on the upcoming new episode of The Great British Baking Show — this way you’ll have a chance to test yourself against the show's contestants as you watch. However, you will only have to select one of our three challenges to bake. Then we'd like you to add a "Wisconsin twist" to your recipe or decoration. Be creative!
 
Once you have completed your challenge, we'll want you to share your baking story with us by filling out our form via the button below by the deadline. We'll ask you some fun questions and ask you to submit the best photo of your creation. You can also share a short 30-second video documenting a moment from your baking journey, which is optional. If you share your baking story on social media, please include #WisconsinBakingChallenge in your posts so we can see them.
 
We will review all the baker submissions and publish them on this page below. Scroll down to see all the submissions we have already received! And each week, we'll select six people as our Featured Bakers! Don't worry. We're not judging your creations. We just want you to have some fun in the kitchen this summer by trying some new recipes and adding a Wisconsin touch!
