Join the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and Wisconsin Public Television for a celebration of Vel Phillips and her life's work. This premiere event features a preview of the new public television documentary Vel Phillips: Dream Big Dreams, with remarks on Vel Phillips' many accomplishments made by U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and additional community leaders.

Vel Phillips: Dream Big Dreams tells the story of one remarkable woman and the struggles she undertook to build a better community. Discover how Vel Phillips, Milwaukee’s first African American and first female alderman, rose to prominence as one of Wisconsin’s great civil rights activists boasting a list of “firsts” as part of her legacy. These include the first African American judge in Wisconsin and the first woman in the nation to hold executive office in state government.
