Seed Starting

If you're looking to get a head start on your garden this year, now's a great time to start some seeds indoors! The last Spring frost varies in different parts of Wisconsin- Find out when it's safe to put new seedlings outside using the maps from the UW-Extension available here.

Kids love to watch seeds sprout and grow- It's like magic!  Check out this "Germinator" activity from Zoom! You can get started with just a sealable plastic bag, a few seeds, and a paper towel!

Another option is "Sponge Sprouts" from PBS Parents.  Your kids will be amazed that seeds can sprout without soil.

Looking for a more general seed starting guide?  Sid the Science kid has you covered.  Check out this Growing Plants activity and video- It also has some tips for helping kids practice the important scientific skills of observation and measurement.
