Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Most children are aware that school is closed on Monday to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.  If you want to dig deeper and help your children understand more about the reason for the holiday and the history of the equal rights movement, PBS has resources to help.  Discussing issues of race with children can be challenging, but it is worth the effort.  Madeleine Rogan and Christopher Metzler wrote articles for PBS Parents to help you get the conversation started:
