Happy 3.14159... Day!

Every year on March 14, math lovers around the world celebrate Pi, the circumference of a circle (the distance around the circle) divided by its diameter (the distance across).

There are great resources online to help kids understand the concept of Pi.  PBS Kids’ CyberChase uses licorice to demonstrate Pi

PBS shows are an excellent way to introduce children to math concepts early and often.  Dozens of math games are available at pbskids.org, featuring all of your kids’ favorite characters.  There are resources for parents at pbsparents.org, including a guideline of math milestones from infancy through 2nd grade.

Making math fun, familiar, and part of your child’s every day life will help lay the groundwork for a lifetime love of learning!
