Amy Milne, representative of the Quilt Index joins Nancy via Skype to make people more aware of this awesome research tool. The Quilt Index is a free, open access project of Matrix, Michigan State University Museum, and the Quilt Alliance.

Maria Judy is an amazing 10 year old girl who has won numerous prizes at prestigious quilt shows. Her mentor and friend Mrs. Geissler helped Maria learn to quilt. Maria won First Place on a Log Cabin quilt at the Firehouse Quilt Show, and she went to a National Quilt Show in Kansas and won Second Place with the Sherbet Stars, plus she got the Piecer’s Award.

A remarkable five member clothing design team from UW Stout created an evacuation harness for the safety of wheelchair bound people. The harness functions like a backpack. It allows an able-bodied person to carry a disabled person away from danger. The safety design of the harness became nationally recognized with an award from the international 2012 Safety Products Student Design Challenge.

The art of sewing helps women in the Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners project learn a trade that provides an income, and helps them provide custom made clothing for burn victims in their country. Volunteers from the partners project help the Nicaraguan women learn to sew, obtain needed sewing supplies, and provide an outlet for them to sell the beautifully made doll clothes.
