On the first edition of the new season, The Wisconsin Gardener on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) addresses common gardening mistakes.

Producer, Host and Master Gardener Shelley Ryan and her guests look at the wrong way to care for container plants, the downfalls of planting trees and shrubs too close to a building or road, tree planting mistakes, and how not to prune. The program also shows viewers how to correctly manage and remedy these common gardening problems.

“Misteaks We Have Maid” premieres 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6 on WPT.

Ryan visits Jan Wos, owner of Mayflower Green House in Hobart, to learn about common mistakes gardeners make with container plantings. Wos gives tips on proper container-plant maintenance and shows the correct way to prune a hibiscus.

In Egg Harbor, Caleb Whitney of Greenside Up Landscaping looks at the downfalls of planting trees and shrubs too close to a building or road. Viewers will see the difference between correct and incorrect use of plantings.

Tree planting mistakes are common among homeowners. In Blue Mounds, University of Wisconsin-Extension Plant Pathologist Brian Hudelson shares tree planting mistakes as well as the correct way to water and mulch trees and shrubs.

At a Madison home, University of Wisconsin-Extension Horticulture Educator Mike Maddox repairs a bad backyard pruning job. He shows improper shrub pruning and demonstrates how to fix the problem.

Major funding for The Wisconsin Gardener is provided in part by University of Wisconsin-Extension, Cooperative Extension. Additional funding is provided by the Wisconsin Master Gardener Association.
