WPT's Director's Cut Programs Offer Interviews With Independent Filmmakers Followed by Broadcast of Their Film

This August, Wisconsin Public Television’s Director’s Cut interviews independent filmmakers followed by a presentation their films.
At 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, Director’s Cut Host Charles Monroe-Kane interviews Douglas Rosenberg, director of the film “Seven Solos.” Rosenberg is joined by his wife renowned dancer Li Chiao-Ping. Following the interview, viewers can watch “Seven Solos,” a documentary that follows the process of dancer Li Chiao-Ping as she prepares to perform the work of seven postmodern choreographers. Chiao-Ping immerses herself in the choreographic language of each choreographer as she learns the solos created specifically for her. WPT will encore this episode of Director’s Cut at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7.
At 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, Director’s Cut offers an interview with Pete Schwaba, director of “The Godfather of Green Bay,” and actor Lance Barber. In the film, Joe Keegan, a struggling stand-up comedian, faces the audition of a lifetime, a chance to perform on “The Tonight Show.” He must leave the big city and travel to rural Pine Lake, Wis., to win over the talent scout and his toughest audience yet.
At 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, Director’s Cut features an interview with filmmaker Trevor Velin and burro racer Roger Pedretti about the film “Haulin’ Ass.” The film about pack burro racing follows three men in their quests to take the Triple Crown while overcoming their own mental and physical obstacles.
At 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, Director’s Cut interviews Timm Gable producer of the film “It’s Happiness: A Polka Documentary.” The film takes a delightful look at elders who defy aging with their enjoyment and dedication to polka dancing and their mission to keep polka alive for the younger generation. A presentation of the film follows at 9:30 p.m.
