University of Wisconsin-Madison Chemistry professor Bassam Shakhashiri delights viewers with the sights and sounds of science in his annual holiday special on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT). Once Upon A Christmas Cheery in the Lab of Shakhashiri airs 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20. WPT will present encore broadcasts at 1 and 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24

In Shakhashiri’s 41st-holiday lecture he and special guests, including Bucky Badger and Santa Claus, display fascinating phenomena, color-changing liquids, fog and smoke, and loud and melodious sounds. Niobium, the 41st element, is featured and some of its colorful secrets are revealed.
