Local Submissions Sought for Quilt Expo Contest
April 27, 2011
Quilt Expo invites local quilters to enter up to four quilts in the 2011 10-category juried and judged contest. The contest is part of the seventh-annual Quilt Expo presented by Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) and Nancy Zieman Productions LLC.
The contest awards $500 for first-place, $300 for second-place and $200 for third-place in each category. Best of Show receives $1,500 and the Viewers' Choice winner, selected by Quilt Expo attendees, receives $500.
Last fall, thirteen Wisconsin quilters had winning quilts. Their quilts and all the 2010 award-winning quilts may be viewed at wiquiltexpo.com on the Web where the contest rules and entry form are available for download. For more information, call 800-253-1158.
Quilt Expo will be held 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily Thursday, Sept. 8 through Saturday, Sept. 10 in the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis.
Event highlights include the quilt contest, a vendor mall, stage presentations, informal lectures, Sit & Sew workshops, hands-on workshops, nationally known celebrity presenters, prize drawings and special evening events.
This year, Chicago-area quilt artists and teachers Frieda Anderson and Laura Wasilowski will be featured in a special evening event. Both create and innovate quilts with their quick fuse methods.
