Michael Harryman joined Wisconsin Public Television as Director of Marketing Communications in December 2011 after a 25-year career in nonprofit marketing, communications and organizational strategy.
Michael's area of expertise is audience development, data-driven and knowledge-based marketing and brand development, applying a mix of psychology and creativity to marketing solutions. Michael spent the previous two years with Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis' the nation's largest children's theatre, where he helped turn the organization's sales and audience trends around, netting the company's first sales surplus in more than 10 years. Prior to that, Michael served as the Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications for Alverno College in Milwaukee where he helped build awareness and ultimately enrollment for this acclaimed women's college, leading to a 50 percent student increase.
Michael has served in the fields of education, arts administration and museum management in his career.
A Wisconsin native, Michael earned his BA in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he also marched in the highly acclaimed UW Marching Band. Michael also holds an MS in Organizational Development and Leadership from Marian University.
Michael and his wife, Colleen, have a daughter, Nora, and two dogs. In his spare time, Michael is a home chef, an avid cross-country skier, and a lover of world music, jazz and the arts in general.
