Danny Jerabek set out to learn the traditional Czech and German songs of his family’s tradition at age nine. Fast forward to a marriage with a musician with similar family tastes (Michele, who sings, plays sax and guitars) and you have the core of Copper Box. They can play the old stuff with a modern edge. Or they can fly into their own hybrid brand of Louisiana flavored “zydapunk.”

This Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Prairie Home Companion veteran band is the best old time/mountain music act in the Twin Cities. The band has mind-bending harmony singing on slow or on the breakneck-fast fiddle songs they play. The five piece includes fiddle/banjo/guitar/stand-up bass and a clogger!

Morgan Frazier invited us onto her tour bus at Country Thunder in Twin Lakes, Wis. for an exclusive acoustic performance of her new single, "Hey Bully." In releasing the song, Frazier has partnered with the Stand for the Silent project to help prevent bullying in schools across the United States.

Keller Williams invited us onto the stage at the Majestic Theater in Madison, Wis. Aug. 16 for an exclusive acoustic performance of a brand new unreleased song, "The Drop" interwoven with the delicately beautiful instrumental track, "Sheebs." Williams headlined the Majestic's Live on King St. Series later that night.

From the Holiday Music Motel Sessions, recorded Feb. 2, 2013 in Sturgeon Bay. This Austin, Texas duo is the creation of Vaughn Walters, who started out his music career as a punk-metal bassist and later caught the country music fever. Jenny Parrot, lead singer for the late, great Shotgun Party completes the duo, which switches back and forth on fiddle, guitar, 5-string banjo, and mandolin.

From the Holiday Music Motel Sessions, recorded Feb. 2, 2013 in Sturgeon Bay. Milwaukee-based, world touring musician Paul Cebar is among the greatest musicians Wisconsin has produced. He's devoted to African, Latin, and Caribbean music as well as American R&B and jump blues. Though he's fronted some of the hardest touring bands, it’ll be a special treat to hear Cebar in a rare solo show.

The name of pop-music pioneer (and Holiday Music Motel co-owner) pat mAcdonald’s duo refers to the mythical location where cigar box guitars are made. Yes, his electric guitar is made from a cigar box. A Grammy nominee writer of the 1980s hit, “The Future’s So Bright” mAcdonald was the first artist to appear on 30-MMH.

These young musicians from Chicago blend rap, rhythm, horns and guitars, crafting what they call, “Traphouse Rock.” The group’s 2012 debut record, “Traphouse Rock,” was produced by WILCO’S Jeff Tweedy. The recording stunned critics with its maturity, range and rawness. It shocked marketers, too - that’s because the band offers the release as a download completely free of charge.

30-MMH has featured several acts that soon broke out to national and international audiences. PHOX, a vocal-centric pop band from Madison, is surely one. Daytrotter, the premier website for American indie music, named "Evil," a track from the band's gorgeous debut album their #9 song of 2011. Rockford-based Miles Nielsen is a second-generation professional music maker. His father Rick Nielsen was a founding member of the seminal Rockford band Cheap Trick. Nielsen inherited his father’s gifts as a guitar player but, unlike his Dad, Miles is a powerful, emotive vocalist. His music is part rock, part folk and part gypsy wedding party.

A Madison-based four-piece that makes hypnotic, neo-folk music, Pioneer's sound is awash with cello and frank, startling guitar chord progressions. Their debut album, produced at Madison’s Science of Sound, is scheduled for Spring 2013 release.

Southern Wisconsin is getting to be known as a birthplace for brave, new independent rock. Icarus Himself is a Madison-based, hard touring four-piece that is helping define that trend. Their sound rolls live tracking, loops, diamond hard singing--and the occasional trumpet note.

With the ink still wet on his diploma from Kalamazoo College, Nick Brown moved to Austin to see if he could make it as a singer/songwriter. It was a move to Madison, though, that helped his music career take shape. Known locally as the bass player for Brown Derby, Brown appears solo on the 30-MMH, acoustic guitar in hand, to perform songs from Slow Boat, his first album of working man songs.

The German Art Students have been playing punk, pop and rock music in the Madison area for more than a dozen years. Known for their sense of humor as well as their musicianship, GAS have a loyal following that clamors for their satirical songs including, "Civil War Re-enactor." We're excited to have them on the 30MMH performing songs from their brand-new EP, "The Power and the Trust."
